Health Tip: Signs of Nail Fungus

(HealthDay News) -- Fungi can creep underneath nails on the toes and fingers, causing an infection. While this problem usually can be treated with a prescription medication, keeping nails clean and dry can help prevent it in the first place.

The U.S. National Library of Medicine lists these warning signs of a fungal nail infection:
  • A nail that is brittle and crumbles.
  • A change in the way the nail is shaped.
  • A thick nail.
  • A change in the color of the nail.
  • A nail that is dull, or is separating from the skin.
  • A nail that appears to have particles beneath it.

Dr Simoncini's treatment??

A patient of mine with prostate cancer came in with some info on the Bicarbonate therapy. He wants to do this as an IV drip. My understanding was that the treatment was done via injection into the tumor. Anyway, the patient's comments about the dosing was something like 5% bicarb mixed in 500cc.so, to anyone who knows about this -- he said Rob Rowen had and article on it -- do you know the specifics of the formula? Is it a 5% bicarb solution mixed in sterile water, normal saline....et cetera, or is the final mix supposed to be a 5% solution. Also, what about osmolarity? Read more

Bilateral nasal polyposis??

If there are polyps, there is inflammation. If there is inflammation, there is an activated immune system. If there is an activated immune system ,there is a perceived foreign antigen. In the nasal mucosa, it is usually one or more fungi. The ostensible problem of the polyps is easily addressed by nasal antifungals. The ENT's at Mayo are using compounded Amphotericin B(See article below). We use either Sinu Orega from North American Herb and Spice or the formula I developed-OMG nasal spray. Both contain the antifungal component from oregano. My formula addresses basophil cell membrane integrity and inhibition of fungal adhesion to cell membranes. My formula will work on a higher percentage of patients but some patients do better with the Sinu Orega. I don't profit from either formula, so have no bias as to which you choose.More fundamentally, you want to assess why sapprophytes are attracted to his nasal mucosa. Immunocompromise? Ischemia? Too much available glucose? Dysbiosis? Toxin overload? Hypochlorhydria? Hypothyroid? vitamin A/D deficient? Low iodine/iodide levels? If fungi and inflammation are present in one area of the body, its likely that other areas may be sub-clinically infected and harboring the chronic inflammation that shows up later as clinical disease. Inflammatory markers such as: CRP, IL6,lipids, LFT's, alk phos, uric acid, HgAIC, BP, waist circumference, ferritin, increased carotid intimal thickness on ultra sound and fibrinogen will help assess if there systemic inflammation. How to Get Fungus Free For Life

Kathryn Bell, of West Peoria, Illinois, was taking a laundry list of medications for everything from nerves to depression to high blood pressure. But when she broke out with a rash covering her entire body, her doctors could not come up with a cure. It was her daughter, Janet Ricca, who found the remedy. Janet had luck in the past treating her own digestive and skin disorders with antifungal herb supplements, so she shared the idea with her mother. Kathryn's doctors were flabbergasted with the results. Not only did her rash disappear but so did her other disorders. The 80-year-old woman no longer needs the long list of prescription medications. In fact, she's up and moving like never before.

There are over 400 fungi that produce pathogens, or mycotoxins, which are toxic to humans. According to Doug Kaufmann, a prominent fungus expert and host of the syndicated daily health show, Know the Cause!, "Mycotoxins cannot presently be discerned inside the human body. All we can do is see the track of damage they cause." Fungi are ubiquitous, and easily find their way into our systems. A fungal overgrowth in the body can mimic many diseases, such as diabetes, sinusitis, eczema, digestive disorders, and even cancer. And many times, we unknowingly take antibiotics or other prescription medications that make our symptoms worse. If you think fungus might be at the root of your symptoms, you need to learn how to get the fungus out of your body. Here's how to get fungus-free for life. Continue Reading >>

Wisconsin Scientists Discover a Master Key to Microbes' Pathogenic Lifestyles

MADISON - For some microbes, the transformation from a benign lifestyle in the soil to that of a potentially deadly human pathogen is just a breath away.

Inhaled into the lungs of a mammal, spores from a class of six related soil molds found around the world encounter a new, warmer environment. And as soon as they do, they rapidly shift gears and assume the guise of pathogenic yeast, causing such serious and sometimes deadly afflictions as blastomycosis and histoplasmosis. Health Tip: Controlling Foot Odor

(HealthDay News) - Sweaty feet and shoes that don't allow for circulation can lead to fungus and bacteria breeding inside your shoes and socks. These germs can cause an embarrassing odor when you remove your shoes.

Here are suggestions on how to reduce foot odor, courtesy of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons:

  • Wash feet thoroughly each day with soap and water, then dry thoroughly to prevent bacterial growth.
  • Change shoes and socks frequently -- at least once a day.
  • Apply daily a non-medicated powder, like baby powder or foot powder.
  • Check your feet for any signs of fungal or bacterial infection, and treat any symptoms promptly.
  • Wear thick, absorbent cotton socks with shoes.
  • Wear shoes made of breathable materials, like canvas, leather or mesh, and avoid plastic or nylon shoes.
  • Don't wear the same pair of shoes two days in a row.

Fighting a Fungus That Thrives on Tomatoes

(HealthDay News) -- A molecular-based approach to helping tomatoes fight a fungus that causes wilt has been identified by Dutch scientists.

In agriculture, there's an ongoing battle against the ability of plant pathogens to co-evolve along with their host plant's immune system, according to background information in the study. One way to increase protection is through disease resistance genes that strengthen a plant's immune system.

In this study, the researchers looked at tomatoes and the fungal pathogen Fusarium oxysporum, which causes fusarium wilt disease.

The University of Amsterdam team found that a suppressor protein secreted by some strains of the fungus enables it to overcome two of the tomato plant's disease resistance genes. However, a third resistance gene specifically targets the suppressor protein, making the plant fully resistant to any fungal strain that produces the protein.

This means that with the right set of resistance genes, tomato plants can defeat the fungus.

"This molecular analysis has revealed a hitherto unpredicted strategy for durable disease control based on resistance combinations," according to a news release about the study, published Friday in the journal PLoS Pathogens.
